A crisp breeze means a few things: the return of cute outfits and layers, dining al fresco without melting in the unrelenting heat, and men on a mission to find a romantic partner before it gets too cold to go out.
Case in point, one of my friends was minding her own business on the Upper East Side when a man stopped her on the street (could go either way) to tell her she’s cute (ok!!!) and start up a conversation. They’re already going on a second date.
As my friend Caitlin said, it’s sexy September. It’s warm enough to give everyone good vibes without the debilitating heat but also getting to a temperature that hints at sweaters and hot chocolate and nights in watching the Princess Bride (cue “as you wish” and cuddles).
Personally, I spent the summer rewatching New Girl (guest star Rob Reiner) and plan to sneak in a When Harry Met Sally rewatch in between regularly scheduled programming (threatening to lay down in Second Avenue traffic at the prospect of the New York Jets’ season; in Breece Hall we trust).
I’m so happy football is back. I’m not one for couch rotting, but rotating from my bed to the couch to maybe a bar to watch the Jets in despair with my cousin Zack is the highlight of my fall. And I’m looking forward to everything else that comes with New York City’s best time of the year (including the fall semester at NYU; I love my students this semester).
Oversharing
I’m thinking about trying my hand at a romance story. I have 100,000 words of my second book down, so obviously instead of shoveling those words into a structure I’m interested in starting a new project entirely. At the Queens Night Market, my friends and I tossed around the idea of a writing circle.
My publisher is taking me out to dinner at my favorite restaurant this week to talk about the marketing plan for People Are Talking, out April 22. This, above all else, makes me feel like an Author.
ICYMI, my cover reveal was featured in Debutiful. Author and podcaster Olivia Muenter also featured my writing routine in her Substack.
I stopped by the Upper East Side Diptyque to smell the new collection of fragrances that are a gazillion dollars. I got a sample of the Bois Corsé fragrance that smells like vanilla coffee. It smelled great (I also liked the coral one) but the fragrance didn’t last long on my skin. For $330, I’d want something that LASTS.
Some good shopping:
These MF socks are everything
Finally replaced MAC Ruby Woo lipstick that was like a decade old
I splurged on this Alex Mill corduroy set (jacket and skirt). I’ve never tried on the brand before, so we’ll see how it fits
These pants and skirt from Reformation are en route to my apartment
J. Crew is absolutely killing it. I’m waiting for these satin pants in white to go on sale
Unfortunately I want these dumb expensive skirts from Tanya Taylor
Books!
I finally listened to I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy (Spotify). It’s wrenching to listen to how her mother developed her anorexia and abused the actress. A common theme with all these child actors: how the adults surrounding these kids failed them.
I rode the elevator with one of my neighbors who carried The Genius of Israel in her hands. She had just come from a book event at the nearby temple and said the authors were fantastic. I have a request in from the New York Public Library.
Emily Henry’s sixth book, Great Big Beautiful Life, will share the same birthday as People Are Talking! I love her writing, and I’m curious what the plot of this “dazzling and sweeping” story will be.
Until next time, xo
